National Safe Digging Month: A Big Success!

Indiana 811 implemented both new and tried-and-true National Safe Digging Month (NSDM) initiatives in 2022 during the month of April to help promote the 811 Before You Dig Message.

We once again partnered with the Indianapolis Indians baseball team, and this year sponsored a series of educational videos between innings, in which Indiana 811 mascot Holey Moley and the Indians’ mascot Rowdie share valuable information about the 811 process with homeowners in a way that connects to baseball. These videos will continue throughout the season. Plus, the Indians launched a social media sweepstakes, which runs through the end of June, for a lucky winner to receive a lawn makeover, courtesy of the Indians ground crew and sponsored by Indiana 811!

Additionally, Indiana 811 launched a billboard campaign across the state to remind homeowners and contractors to contact 811 before any digging project, as well as Facebook ads for the month of April reminding homeowners to contact 811 before breaking ground on all outdoor projects.

Media relations efforts throughout the month resulted in 11 total earned media hits, including interviews with WPTA-TV in Fort Wayne and WTHI-TV in Terre Haute.

Lastly, the liaison team connected with homeowners this April at plant nurseries across Indiana, handing out 811 swag and educational material to promote safe digging.

Indiana 811 Launches New Video Library

We are so excited to officially unveil our new video library, created as a helpful resource to inform homeowners and pros alike about the safe digging process in a new way.

The library includes the brand-new videos created in partnership with the Indianapolis Indians, featuring our very own Holey Moley and the Indians’ mascot Rowdie as they educate homeowners about the importance of white lining, the five steps to safe digging, the color code card, the online ticketing process and more.

We will be adding even more content to the video library soon, so be sure to keep an eye out!
