Effective at 7 a.m. ET on 12/17/2024, Indiana 811 will convert to an automated call-out process for emergency and damage tickets. This optional service will enhance efficiency and ensure timely notifications for all affected members.
Current manual process through 7 a.m. ET on 12/17/2024:
Calls are placed to the member-provided contact list on emergency/damage tickets that are sent and requested during:
- 6pm – 7am ET, Monday-Thursday
- 6pm ET Friday – 7am ET Monday
- 24×7 on observed State and/or Federal Holidays the member provided
Indiana 811 continuously calls each number, in order, until we reach someone or leave a voicemail. If neither occurs, we will try each number up to three times.
Automated process on emergency/damage tickets going into effect at 7 a.m. ET on 12/17/2024:
- Indiana 811 will continue to send the ticket to the destinations where members receive those ticket types. If transmissions are failing on emergency/damage tickets, we will attempt to contact the existing receiving location contacts for that destination.
- This optional automated service will immediately call out from 317-644-4922 during the times you provide.
- The free automated call must be to a direct number and answered by an individual. The person contacted must know the reason and the times they may receive the call.
- If they fail to follow the prompts to acknowledge and accept the ticket after 3 attempts (spaced 5 minutes apart), the call converts to a manual process for one more attempt by our staff. Each attempted manual call will be charged $5.
- Members may register up to 2 phone numbers. Note that all numbers will be called at the same time.
Reminder: Indiana 811 can send the emergency/damage ticket by SMS/Text in addition to sending to your main destination. The text message may either accompany the automated call or serve as a substitute. To opt in for this billable transmission, please complete this form.
The outgoing message has 3 options to hear the details about the ticket:
- Press 1 for the ticket number and summary.
- Press 2 for the ticket number.
- If selecting 1 or 2, you must select 1 again after hearing the details to acknowledge delivery.
- Press 3 to acknowledge delivery of this call and check 811.indiana811.org (Exactix) for ticket details and to respond to the excavator
If we do not receive the Set up/Opt-Out form by the effective date:
- All current after-hours contacts will receive automated calls for emergency/damage tickets sent outside of your operating hours that you have registered with Indiana 811. If you, or your contract locator, previously opted out of receiving manual calls and do not submit the form, you will be automatically opted out of this service.
